Infographic: Why MPLS? Benefits of MPLS vs. Internet VPN
How does an MPLS network compare to a traditional internet VPN model?
An internet VPN model lacks security, has limited Quality of Service and high latency. In a traditional internet VPN network, you have no control over QoS because your data is transmitted over the public internet and traffic can't be distinguished between priority/non-priority.
Whereas, the standards for reliability, speed and quality are significantly higher when using MPLS networking. With an MPLS network, all branches have direct access to the network, delivering low latency and control over QoS.
